Soccer Wins Second Conference Match with 2-1 Victory at Hiram

Wabash improved to 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference mens' soccer standings with a 2-1 win at Hiram College Saturday afternoon.

The Little Giants trailed 1-0 after Mario Reyes gave the Terriers the lead with a goal in the 27th minute. Gary Simkus (Highland, IN/Highland) evened the score with a goal on an assist from Greg Ridenour (Ft. Wayne, IN/Canterbury) with 39 minutes gone in the match.

Wabash was outshot 7-6 in the first period, but goalkeeper Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel) would face a barrage of shots in the second period.

Hiram fired 11 shots in the final 45 minutes, four forcing McAdams to come up with saves. It looked as if the match would head to overtime, but with just 2:26 showing on the game clock, freshman George Padgitt (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) notched his third goal of the season to give the Little Giants the win. Michael Hutchins (Portage, IN/Portage) picked up the assist when he found Padgitt in front of the net for the game-winner

Simkus led Wabash with three shots on goal. Padgitt also had three shot attempts on goal in the match. The Little Giants were outshot 18-11.

The victory allowed Wabash to improve to 3-6 for the season. The Little Giants sport a 2-0 record for the first time since joining the NCAC in 1999.

Wabash will play at Hanover Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. before returning to conference play with a home match against Wooster Saturday.
