Student tickets are now on sale for the Oct. 8 National Act, The Roots.
The Roots got their start in Philadelphia in 1987 and are often described as a mix of hip-hop, jazz-rap and alternative rap music. The Roots are also one of the first rap bands focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and when recording.
Tickets are on sale at 12:30- 1 p.m. each weekday in the Allen Center lobby.
Every Wabash student is entitled to one free ticket. Students may purchase one extra ticket as well but there will be no public pre-sale of tickets this year. Additional student tickets are $15.
Any tickets not sold, or claimed by the day of the show will be sold for $15 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
It was a fairness issue that prompted the policy change to eliminate public sale of tickets prior to the day of the show. "We do not feel the gneral public should have the same opportunity to take advanage of the Student Activity Fee that students and friends should have," said Student Senate Activities Committee co-chair Jake Koeneman.
"The reason that general public sales will be only at the door is just to simplify the process and give the students, the people that pay for the act, the best opportunity to have their friends here and not worry about paying more than two times the face value of the ticket."
Last spring the Ben Folds concert sold out quickly and tickets were being scallped and sold on e-Bay.
Wabash students must personally pick up their free ticket and present their current valid student ID.
The Roots most recent release was 2004's The Tipping Point.
