A combined shutout by senior goalkeepers Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel) and Ben Edquist (LaPorte, IN/LaPorte) helped Wabash to a 2-0 victory over Hanover College Tuesday evening.
McAdams started the match, making three saves before giving way to Edquist in the second half. Edquist finished with one save as the Little Giants held Hanover to only four shots on goal and ten shots attempts for the entire match to finish with the first shutout of the season.
The game-winning goal came in the 38th minute on a rebound off of a shot in the box. Sophomore Gary Simkus (Highland, IN/Highland) put the errant shot into the net, scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Sophomore Matt Potasnik (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) picked up his second goal of the season just before halftime when senior Mark Server (Trafford, PA/Plainfield (IN)) flicked a pass into the box. Potasnik redirected the ball toward the goal.
That was all Wabash needed. The Panthers were held to five shots in the final 45 minutes, allowing the Little Giants to win follow up their win Saturday at Hiram with a non-conference victory against their in-state rivals.
Wabash (4-6, 2-0 NCAC) returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday morning with an 11 a.m. match at Mud Hollow Field against the College of Wooster.
