Wabash evened the score with Wittenberg at 1-1 early in the match Wednesday afternoon before watching the Tigers score six more goals on the way to a 7-1 win at Mud Hollow Field.
Wittenberg scored on a penalty kick in the first six minutes of the match before Wabash rallied for a loose ball goal on a Chris Kiester (SR/Winter Haven, FL/Canterbury (IN)) throw-in. Gary Simkus (SO/Highland, IN/Highland) got a foot on the ball, trickling it past the defense to tie the match at 1-1.
It would be as close as the Little Giants would get. The Tigers added two goals in final 12 minutes of the first half to go up 3-1 at the break, then added two goals in two minutes at the 59th and 61st minutes. Two more goals later in the second period gave the Tigers the six-goal win.
Wabash stayed fairly even with Wittenberg in shots on net. The Tigers held a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal, but owned a commanding 25-9 edge in total shots.
Wabash (5-12, 2-6 NCAC) will play its final match of the season Saturday against Denison at Mud Hollow Field at 1 p.m.
