Little Giants Take Wittenberg 126-115 In Friday Night NCAC Swimming

Wabash took individual victories in five events as well as a win in the final relay of the night to earn a 126-115 win over Wittenberg University in a North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet Friday night at the Class of 1950 Natatorium.

Wabash held a slim lead going into the last event of the meet, the 200-yard free relay. The quartet of Michael Belanger (SO/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), Jordon Blackwell (FR/Veedersburg, IN/Crawfordsville), Blaine Cooper-Surma (FR/Free Soil, MI/Ludington), and Kyle Weaver (JR/Portland, IN/Jay County) outtouched the rest of the field, winning the race with a time of 1:29.71 to secure the win for the Little Giants.

Wabash overcame a slight Wittenberg advantage after the first relay with a victory by Belanger in the 1000-yard freestyle. Belanger won the race, finishing in 10:24.01. Weaver added another first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.02, followed by Blackwell in second (22.92).

Freshman Brent Graham (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) took the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley, winning in 2:05.96. Weaver bolstered the Little Giants' team score with a first place finish in the 100 butterfly (55.86). Belanger scored with a second place time of 57.30 in the event, while Chris Bly (SR/Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North) made it a clean sweep by taking third place (58.12).

Blackwell added one more first place finish, touching first with a time of 5:02.42 in the 500 free. Graham was second for the Little Giants with a time of 5:06.80.

The Little Giants will serve as hosts for the annual Wabash Invitational next weekend. The two-day event begins Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m. before concluding Saturday, November 19. The first events Saturday begin at 10:30 a.m.
