Junior Keith Garrard finished fourth at 197 pounds and senior Joe Seger took eighth at 174 pounds at the Ohio Northern University Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Ada, Ohio.
Garrard opened the tournament with a pin 2:42 into his match against James Kara from Thiel College, before dropping a 9-3 decision in the next round to drop to the consolation bracket. Garrard, seeded fourth going into the tournament, won a 13-6 decision in his first wrestleback match, then picked up a 6-2 win in the quarterfinals. He defeated second-seeded bobby Poweski from Mount St. Joseph 11-6 to advance to the finals, but was pinned by Heidelberg's Ryan Fogliano to finish fourth.
Seger started with a 13-2 major decision in his first match at 174 pounds. He won 7-5 in his second match befor losing to the number two seed in the third round. Seger followed his loss with a 9-3 win in the consolation bracket before losing 7-1 to Bruce Brinkman of Muskingum to move to the finals. Seger wrestled Byron Sanders from Rose-Hulman, falling 11-5 to take eighth place.
Wabash will return to the mats this Sunday at the Mount Union Duals in Alliance, Ohio.
