Two Wabash College football players have been named to the D3football.com All-America Team.
Three-year starting quarterback Russ Harbaugh was named to the All-America Second Team and two-year starting linebacker Adrian Pynenberg was named to the All-America Honorable Mention Team by the popular Division III football website.
Harbaugh is fresh off a starting roll for the American team in the annual the Aztec Bowl, where he also was named captain of the Division III all-star squad. Harbaugh was the Wabash football team's Most Valuable Player and earned the Mike Gregory Award as the Outstanding Offensive Player in the North Coast Athletic Conference. He was a top-10 finalist for the Gagliardi Award, which honors the most outstanding player in Division III.
The senior English major from Evansville, Indiana led Wabash to the NCAC title with a perfect 10-0 regular season record, a 7-0 mark in conference play, and a first round win over Albion in the Division III playoffs. Along the way he rewrote both the school and conference record books, becoming the first Little Giant quarterback to throw for over 3,000 yards in a season. His 3,521 passing yards set the Wabash and NCAC records.
Harbaugh also set both school and conference records for single game completion percentage (19-of-20 for 95 percent vs. Denison), season completion percentage (273-of-394 for 69.3 percent), and the single season completions total. He also owns the Wabash and NCAC completion percentage record, finishing his four-year career with a mark of 65.4 percent (568-of-869). He was eighth in the nation in passing efficiency (166.1) and led the Wabash offense to rankings of 10th in passing offense and 20th in total offense in all of Division III.
Pynenberg, a sophomore from Libertyville, Illinois recorded 22 tackles for loss this year, the third highest total ever recorded at Wabash. For the second straight year, the linebacker led the team in tackles with 96, which earned for him a spot as a First Team All-NCAC defensive player. In just two seasons and 20 games, Pynenberg i already ranks fourth in career tackles for losses for the Little Giants with 33. His numbers have helped the Little Giants rank third nationally in rushing defense and scoring defense, and 13th in total defense.
