Pino Finishes Eighth at Midwest Classic

Junior wrestler Garrett Pino took eighth place in the 133-pound weight class at the Midwest Wrestling Classic, hosted by the University of Indianapolis over the weekend.

Pino lost his opening match to fifth-seeded Raymond Dunning from Adams State 9-4 before picking up two consecutive wins in the consolation bracket. He scored a 14-6 major decision over Kent Pierson from Carson Newman, then received a medical forfeit in his scheduled match against seventh-seed Tony Iovine from Ashland.

Pino dropped a close 11-8 match in the semifinal round to sixth-seeded Matt Mossor from West Liberty to move into the seventh place match. Pino lost by fall to SIU-Edwardsville's Rashad Riley to finish eighth.

Senior Joe Seger was 2-2 in the tournament at 174 pounds. He opened with a 7-4 win over Heidelberg's Luke Majestic before losing to second-seeded Clint Carmony from Ashland. Seger scored a pin at 4:34 into his consolation bracket match against Luke Majestic from Heidelberg. Seger's final match placed him against fifth-seed AJ Morgan from Wisconsin-Parkside, with Morgan coming away with an 11-6 win.

The Little Giants return to action this weekend, participating in the Bud Whitehill National Duals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
