Tankers Fall 151-84 at Washington University

The Wabash swimmers returned to action Saturday afternoon for the first time in 2006, losing 151-84 to Washington University of St. Louis.

The Little Giants trailed early and never recovered, not picking up a first place finish until Rob Fengolio won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 182.40. The Battling Bears continued to take the top spot in event after event until the Wabash 400 freestyle relay team of Michael Belanger, Michael Hewitt, Blaine Cooper-Surma, and Jordon Blackwell touched first in the event with a time of 3:23.16.

Despite a lack of winning times, Wabash did record several second place finishes. Belanger outtouched Washington University's Jamey Eckstein in the 1650 free by 2/100th of a second with a time of 17:15.04. Kyle Weaver was second in the 50 free, touching the wall in 22.40. Brent Graham added a second place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:07.81), followed by a second place for Fengolio on the three-meter board. Blackwell had the final second place finish for the Little Giants with a time of 49.88 in the 100 freestyle.

The Little Giants are back in action Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. dual meet in Greencastle, Indiana against arch-rival DePauw University.
