Wabash Loses 147-96 To DePauw in Dual Swimming and Diving Meet

Wabash hoped to rebound from a loss Saturday to Washington University with a big swimming and diving meet against arch-rival DePauw Wednesday night. But the Little Giants would never catch up after the Tigers took two of the top three places in the first two events on the way to a 147-96 win in Greencastle Wednesday night.

Michael Belanger would take first place finishes for the Little Giants in two events. He placed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.73, narrowly defeating DePauw's Gregg Nowak. Jordon Blackwell was third, finishing in 1:50.47. Belanger added another top finish, this time in the 500 free. He easily outdistanced the field, finishing five second ahead of his nearest competitor with a time of 4:59.61.

Michael Hewitt added a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a winning time of 2:01.82. Brent Graham was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.49). Belanger and Blackwell joined Zach Manker and Blaine Cooper-Surma in the final event of the night, the 800 freestyle relay, winning the race with a time of 7:31.69.

The Wabash swimming and diving team returns to the pool January 28 for a dual meet against the University of Indianapolis at 1 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
