Tennis Teams Falls in Season Openers against Kenyon, Walsh

The 2006 season started on a sour note for the Wabash tennis team. The Little Giants lost 7-0 to Kenyon College Saturday morning in Gambier, Ohio before battling in a close match with Walsh University before losing 4-3.

While Wabash did not score a team point against Kenyon, the Little Giants battled the Lords throughout the match. Kenyon came into the opening contest ranked 28th in the nation and seventh in the Central Region.

The Little Giants nearly pulled off the win against Walsh. Junior Paul Prosinski won in three sets (4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-4) at number four singles. Freshman Sean Clergett came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at fifth singles, and junior Nathan Mullendore won a three-set battle with Dan Harlan (6-1, 4-6, 10-8).

Prosinski and Dan Petrie combined for an 8-4 win at number three doubles. But the Little Giants would lose 8-3 at number one singles and 8-4 at two singles to give Walsh the doubles point.

Wabash (0-2) returns to the courts Thursday for its home opener against Franklin College. The meet begins at 4 p.m. at the Collett Tennis Center.
