Morris opened the scoring with an 80-yard scamper, the longest rush of his career, for a touchdown on the second Wabash drive. He finished with 12 carries for 151 yards, including a second touchdown to open the third quarter from 35 yards out. The Little Giants rushed 45 times for 321 yards, their largest rushing total for the season.
Casper, a senior, celebrated his final game at Byron P. Hollett Little Giant Stadium with six receptions for 121 yards and one touchdown. He gave the Little Giants a 21-0 lead on a 40-yard catch and run in the second quarter that capped a four-play, 44-yard drive for Wabash. Short added nine catches for 119 yards to the offensive mix in addition to three touchdowns. Short moved past Chris Wiesehan ’94 and into second place on the Wabash career TD reception list with 23, while Casper is tied with Wiesehan for third on the list with 22 touchdown receptions.
Sophomore Josh Bronaugh (Crawfordsville, IN/North Montgomery) added a 24-yard TD catch in the second quarter as Wabash took a 42-7 halftime lead. Senior running back Desson Hannum (Dugger, IN/Union) added a final score for Wabash in his final home game in a Little Giant uniform with a one-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
Wabash quarterback Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) was 19-29 passing with five touchdowns and and interception for 282 yards. He is the second quarterback in Wabash history to pass for over 7,000 yards in a career, moving to 7,126 yards for his career. Knott trails all-time school passing yardage leader Chris Ings ’96 by 511 yards.
The Little Giant defense held Hiram to 39 passing yards on 15 attempts and intercepted two Terrier passes. Nate Boulais (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) made his first career interception in the second quarter and returned it 21 yards that led to a one-play touchdown drive on a pass from Knott to Short. Sophomore Artie Montes (Mission, TX/Mission) grabbed the second Wabash pick in the third quarter that led to another Little Giant score on the TD run by Hannum that capped a six-play, 28-yard drive. Boulais, Lonnie Heck (LaFontaine, IN/Wabash Southwood), and Chad Springer (Bringhurst, IN/Carroll) each had 5-1/2 tackles to lead the Little Giant defense.
Hiram finished with 209 yards of offense compared to 608 for Wabash. Running back Kris Giebel had the only score for the Terriers on a 52-yard run in the second quarter.
Wabash moves to 5-2 with the win, 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Little Giant will travel to Allegheny in one week in a battle for a portion of second place in the conference standings along with Ohio Wesleyan, who lost to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon.
