Weekend Wins Nets Wabash Tennis Team Three-Game Streak

Victories last week over Franklin College, Illinois College, and Anderson University have given the Wabash tennis team a three-game winning streak and improved the team's season record to 3-2.

The Little Giants picked up a 6-1 win over Franklin last Thursday in their home opener at the Collett Tennis Center. Freshman Jay Horrey combined with Adam Van Zee for an 8-1 win at one doubles. Sean Clerget and Adrian Starnes earned a 9-8 (7-4) win at two doubles. Daniel Petrie and Paul Prosinski completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win in the third flight.

Horrey scored a 6-0, 6-3 win at one singles to start the Little Giants toward their first victory of the season. A 6-2, 6-2 win by Van Zee at second singles was followed with wins by Starnes (6-1, 6-4 third singles), Clerget (6-1, 6-3 fifth singles), and Nathan Mullendore (6-2, 6-4 sixth singles).

Saturday Wabash opened with a 6-1 victory against Illinois College at the Collett Center. Horrey and Van Zee won 8-6 in doubles play, while Starnes and Clerget (8-3), along with Petrie and Prosinski (8-1) gave the Little Giants the doubles' point. Horrey won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles. Starnes (6-1, 6-4 third singles), Prosinski (6-4, 3-6, 10-5 fourth singles), Clerget (6-0, 6-0 fifth singles), and Mullendore (6-2, 6-2 sixth singles) made it two straight victories for the team.

The Little Giants saved the best for last Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep of Anderson University. Horrey won 6-2, 6-2 at first singles. Josh Paul stepped into the number two singles spot, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win. Starnes took a two-set 7-5, 6-2 win at third singles. Prosinski won the fourth flight 6-3, 6-1. Clerget (6-2, 3-6, 10-6 fifth singles) and Mullendore (7-6, 4-6, 10-1 sixth singles) rounded out the individual competition for the match.

Van Zee and Horrey won their doubles match 8-5. Starnes and Clerget were 8-3 winners at second doubles, as were Peterie and Prosinkski and third doubles.

The Little Giants travel to Oberlin, Ohio Saturday for a pair of matches. Wabash opens against Oberlin College in the first match, then will play the College of Wooster in the afternoon.
