Tennis Team Splits Michigan Matches

Wabash split a pair of tennis matches Saturday in Holland, Michigan. The Little Giants opened with a 7-2 victory over Alma College before losing 7-2 to host Hope College.

The Little Giants swept the doubles matches against Alma. Jay Horrey and Adam Van Zee took an 8-3 victory in the first flight. Adrian Starnes and Sean Clerget were 8-4 winners at two doubles, while Paul Prosinski and Josh Paul combined for an 8-2 win at third doubles.

After losing the first two singles matches, Wabash rebounded with four consecutive wins in the remaining flights. Starnes swept through his match at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-2. Prosinski rallied after losing the first set of the fourth flight to take a 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory. Clerget won 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles. Teammate Nate Mullendore won in straight sets (6-2, 6-0) at sixth singles.

Horrey and Van Zee had to play extra games in their doubles match against Hope, eventually winning 9-8 (7-5). Horrey would add a 6-3, 6-4 win at number one singles for the only other victory by Wabash against the Flying Dutchmen.
