Big Innings Send Wabash to Twin Defeats

Four innings where the Wartburg Knights scored five or more runs sent the Wabash College baseball team to two losses Tuesday afternoon in Arizona. The Little Giants lost 7-3 in game one before falling 18-6 in game two.

The Little Giants committed five errors after playing relatively mistake-free defense through the first four games of their spring break trip. Those defensive miscues led to a five-run first inning for Wartburg in the opening game, answering a solo run scored by Wabash when Chris Sides laced a double down the left field line to score David Culp. Wabash would add two more runs in the third off a Jared Bogan single, but would get no closer.

Wabash jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game two on a groundout by Billy King that plated Culp. That lead was short-lived when the Knights put  five runs on the scoreboard in the second inning, six in the third, and another six in the fourth. Sides would add his second home run of the spring in the fourth to provide some excitement for the Wabash fans, but it would be too little too late.

The losses move Wabash to 3-3 for the trip. The Little Giants will have Wednesday off before beginning their final six games of the trip Thursday with a doubleheader against Coe College.
