Sophomore Geoff Lambert ran a 1:56.44 in the first heat of the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships Friday evening, but did not advance to the finals.
Lambert qualified for the nationals after running a Wabash and Knowling Fieldhouse record time of 1:53.10 at the Wabash Indoor Open Invitational in February. His time was the seventh-best in the nation coming into Friday's competition at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He was fifth-fastest in his heat with his preliminary time. However, only the top two finishers in each of the two heats and the next four fastests times advanced to Saturday's final.
This was Lambert's first trip to the nationals.
