The Wabash tennis team split two matches in Iowa over the weekend, recording a 5-2 win over Wartburg College Saturday morning before losing 7-0 to sixth-ranked Coe in the afternoon.
Jay Horrey, recently ranked 24th in the region in singles play, was a 6-2, 6-1 winner against Wartburg's Gerhard Asiedu-Ofei in the first singles flight of the match. Paul Prosinski won in straight sets at third singles (6-2, 7-5), as did Sean Clerget at fifth singles (6-4, 6-0). Nathan Mullendore picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at sixth singles.
The Little Giants swept the doubles matches. Horrey and Adam Van Zee won 8-1 at first doubles. Adrian Starnes and Clerget combined for an 8-1 victory at second singles. Prosinski and Daniel Petrie shut out Tylor Schlader and Sean Kane in the third flight of doubles action with an 8-0 win.
Wabash was not as fortunate in the afternoon match. Only Mullendore could record a win, forcing three sets at sixth singles before losing 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 against the sixth-seeded team in the region.
The Little Giants (6-9) play at Wittenberg this Saturday.
