A single team point sent Wabash to the consolation bracket of the 2006 Great Lakes Colleges Association Tennis Tournament Friday afternoon. The Little Giants lost 4-3 to Oberlin in the first round of the two-day tournament, hosted by Kenyon College.
Jay Horrey and Adam Van Zee opened with an 8-5 victory at first doubles. But Wabash would lose the remaining doubles matches to put Oberlin up 1-0 in the team scoring.
Horrey earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the first flight of singles play to even the match at 1-1. Sean Clerget won 76-63 at fifth singles, while Nathan Mullendore added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at sixth singles. The Yeomen would take the remaining singles flights to take the match.
Wabash will play Ohio Wesleyan later tonight for ninth place in the tournament.
