Sophomore Geoff Lambert won the 800-meter run and anchored the winning 4 X 400-meter relay team to help Wabash to a ninth place finish at the 101st Indiana Intercollegiate "Little State" Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.
Lambert trimmed over two seconds off his season-best time, winning the 800 with a time of 1:54.37. He joined Bart Banach, Nathan Bates, and Mike Russell to win the 1600-meter relay with another season-best effort of 3:18.93, nearly five seconds faster than the previous best run of the year.
The 4 X 100-meter relay team of Banach, Bates, Ja'Michael Hill, and Russell finished third in their race, crossing the finish line in 42.76.
Bates was fourth in the 400-meter dash, recording his best time of the year with a mark of 49.33. Junior Dennis Frazee added a fifth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (32:24.12). Freshman Sam Compton-Craig took eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:48.08).
Wabash scored a total of 36 points in the two-day meet, held at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis. The University of Indianapolis won the event with a total of 126 points. The Little Giants will participate in the Millikin Invitational next Saturday.
