A first place finish by Dennis Frazee in the 5000 and a win by the 4 X 400-meter relay team helped Wabash to a second place finish at Saturday's Millikin Track and Field Classic.
Frazee took the top spot in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:02.08. Teammate Ben Bly was third, finishing in 16:47.67. Ethan Paul took fourth place (17:36.84).
Bart Banach, Tim Rickard, Mike Russell, and Geoff Lambert combined for a winning time of 3:23.07, the second-fastest time of the season in that event for the Little Giants. Wabash finished second in the 4 X 100-meter relay with a time of 42.67.
Lambert added an individual second place finish, turning in a time of 4:15.69 in the 1,500-meter run. Frazee was third (4:16.15) in that event, as well. Mike Russell took second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.57, just .16 off his season-best effort. Russell and freshman Ja'Michael Hill tied for fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.35).
Arthur Banks was second in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.39. Rickard was third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.43, his fastest effort of the year. Banach added a third place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 50.99.
Andrew Rode took second place in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches for his best result this year. Russell took third in the event with a final result of 6 feet, 2 inches. Rode was also fourth in the triple jump (38 feet, 10.25 inches), while Russell added a fourth place finish in the long jump (20 feet, 10.75 inches).
Nelson Barre grabbed third place in the pole vault with a finale effort of 12 feet, 9.50 inches.
John Tsintis had a throw of 133 feet, 2 inches in the hammer to take third place. Justin Sparks (129 feet, 5 inches) was sixth overall. Lincoln Smith took fourth place in the javelin throw (143 feet, 1 inch), just ahead of teammate Keegan McLaughlin in fifth (136 feet, 8 inches). Pat Long was fifth in the discus (127 feet, 7 inches) with Sparks finishing sixth (127 feet, 6 inches). Ben Tritle added a fifth place finish in the shot put (43 feet, 5.75 inches).
Wabash finished second with 129 points in the team scoring, only two points behind first place Millikin's 131. Illinois College was third (117).
The Little Giants will host the Wabash Invitational this Saturday at the Huntsman Track and Field complex.
