Barre Takes Fifth at NCAC Decathlon Championships

Wabash sophomore Nelson Barre improved five places on the final day of the 2006 North Coast Athletic Conference Decathlon. Barre scored a total of 4,964 points while tallying four points for the Wabash track and field team at next week's NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Barre scored a meet-best 603 points in the pole vault with a result of 3.95 meters. He added another 503 points in the 1500-meter run with a final time of 5:10.10. Barre scored 534 points in the 100-meter dash, finishing the race with a time of 12.62 in Saturday's first day of competition. Barre also had 552 points in the high jump (1.71 meters) and 588 points in the 400-meter dash (55.27). 

The championship meet marked the second time Barre has competed in the decathlon. He finished third at last weekend's Wabash Decathlon and Heptathlon with a total of 4,934 points. Barre will compete with the rest of his teammates this Thursday and Friday at the conference championship meet at Ohio Wesleyan University.
