IT Services to Launch New Webmail

On Tuesday August 8, from 5-6pm we will complete our summer email upgrade project by migrating to a new webmail service.  Webmail will be unavailable during this work.  Though functionally similar to the current webmail program, the new version is faster, has an improved user interface, and offers a number of new features.

Improved performance
The main purpose of the mail system upgrade was to improve system performace, particularly during times of heavy load. The new system is substantially faster throughout, from new server hardware, to improved back-end email services, to performance enhancements in the Webmail product itself.

New Features
The new Webmail program offers a number of new and improved options. Some of the most significant changes are listed below.

  • Updated and improved user interface (see below for more information)
  • Display html messages with images by default
  • Rich text editor when composing new messages
  • Improved address book
  • Full SSL (secure connection) option
  • Vacation / out of office notice
  • Server-based message filtering
  • Added tools: personal calendar, notes, bookmarks

User Interface
One of the most significant changes is in the user interface, which is more organized, visually modern, and easier to use. The images below are screen captures of the main inbox message view, and the new message compose window.
