There are six Peer Career Advisors that work in the Career Center this year. Their backgrounds and interests vary, and this allows the staff to better learn to communicate with each other as well as other students on campus. Each Peer Career Advisor has a different specialized job, but we are all able to assist you at our office.
The Peer Career Advisors for the 2006-2007 year include the following:
Shayne Dube, Career Advisor, is a sophomore at Wabash College. This year he will be a second-year Peer Career Advisor and will serve primarily as the student Internship Coordinator. He intends to Major in Psychology and minor in Chemistry since he needs quite a few Chem classes to fulfill the Pre-Dental program’s requirements. Shayne is originally from Zimbabwe, a country in southern Africa, and in 2001 he moved to Indianapolis, where he’s lived since. He’s an avid soccer fan and enjoys watching the sport and playing pick up games with a group of people willing to do so. Some of his favorite past times include reading and listening to and writing poetry not only for entertainment purposes, but as a means of engaging in social consciousness.
Blaine Cooper-Surma, Career Advisor, is originally from Free Soil, MI, and is a sophomore at Wabash College. He is currently pursuing a degree in Economics and English. He is extremely active with the College, participating on the Wabash Swimming & Diving Team, the Water Polo Club, the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the Unidos Por Sangre Club, and also the College Democrats. Blaine is completing the business sequence at Wabash and is hoping to own his own business someday. In addition to working as a Peer Career Advisor during the 06-07 school year, he was also an intern in the office during the summer of '06.
Stephen Iles, Career Advisor, is a sophomore at Wabash, entering his second year as a Peer Career Advisor. This year, he will act primarily as editor of the Outcomes Newsletter. He plans to pursue studies in English and Economics, with possible work in Classics. He is a member of Phi Delta Theta, a Wabash wrestler, and hopes to become more active on campus this year. Steve is from small-town, southern Illinois, and plans to focus his interest in Law and Entrepreneurship into owning businesses and helping others in the future. In his spare time he enjoys music, creative writing, weightlifting, delving into absorbing conversation, and hanging out with friends.
Pat Maguire is a junior at Wabash College from Indianapolis. He is an Economics major and a Biology Minor with a Business Area of Concentration. He is involved in Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, the Newman Club, Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity, and the Biology Society. Pat plans to pursue a joint JD/MBA degree after graduation, and hopes to eventually start and own his own business. He also is an avid Red Sox fan and plays golf in his free time.
Nicholas Woehler, who is originally from Evansville, IN, is a sophomore this year here at Wabash College and is in his first year as a member of the Career Services team as the WabashWorks guru. Although he has not yet declared a major, he has a strong interest in the areas of Spanish, English, and Education and hopes to make a concrete decision by the end of the year. In what free time he can salvage from classes during the school year, Nick serves as secretary for ‘shOUT and plans to become an active part of Unidos Por Sangre this year. He also enjoys the exchange of deep, philosophical ideas and listening to music of the oldies and classic rock variety.
Krzysztof "Chris" Wojciehowski was born in Rome, Italy, on February 3rd, 1987. His family moved to Bloomington, IN, 17 years ago, and he has lived there ever since. Krzysztof is a sophomore at Wabash with a major in economics and a minor in math. He is a brother of Phi Kappa Psi here on campus. Krzysztof’s position at career services is Career Peer Advisor. His primary responsibilities include helping students with resumes, cover letters, job search, and with the many resources that this office has to offer. Additionally, Krzysztof serves as Employer/Alumni Relations Coordinator. In this role he has interviewed several alumni on their career path after Wabash for the career services newsletter, "Outcomes". He encourages students to read these interviews, as they might contain some very relevant information. In his (limited) free time, Krzysztof enjoys travel, skiing, sailing, and cycling. He spent 4 weeks in Poland this summer working on a family real estate development project and enjoying the company of Polish women.
