Little Career Giant,
I have ESH in my financial aid package. How do I get a job?
All of the ESH jobs offered at the school are found on the WabashWorks database. You must apply there before you are awarded a job. WabashWorks can be found from the school website. On the homepage, on the left side, you should see links to the Lilly Library, Wabash Magazine, etc. Click on the Schroeder Career Center, and on the next page you should see a link to WabashWorks, once again on the left side. Another option is to go to the Current Student page and click the WabashWorks link found underneath the webmail log-in on the right. Before you go to WabashWorks, however, you will need to complete a Campus Employment Application which is found on this page. Here, you will also see specific applications for phonathon and computer services jobs you will need to complete as well as their WabashWorks components.
Once you are ready, follow a link WabashWorks and log-in using your username, which should be the same as your network log-in. If this is your first use of WabashWorks, you’ll probably need to use the password "wabash." If you’ve used the database before, you’re password should be the same as your network password. From here you will be able to find internships, alumni mentors, outside jobs, etc. For ESH, however, scroll down the page until you see One-Click Searches, and click on ESH jobs. Now you will see all of the jobs offered by the school. To apply, click a job of your interest, read the description and requirements, and click apply at the bottom of the page. If you have successfully applied, you will be told so.
Since this will be the first time for many of you using WabashWorks, you’ll need to update your profile and submit a the Campus Employment Application as a resume, since some ESH jobs require a resume for application. To do this, update your profile using the Profile tab at the top of the page, and upload a resume using the Documents tab.
For a more in-depth procedure of this process, go to THIS PAGE: On-Campus/ESH Jobs.
Common Problems
1. You can’t log in with your username, even when you use the default "wabash" password.
Your username may not be unique on the database server. Try to add sequential letters from your first name to your WabashWorks login. If you are still having problems, come by the Career Center.
2. You don’t have a resume.
Resumes are an integral element of the job search. There is a downloadable Resume Guide found here and there are hardcopies in the Career Center office. I would suggest picking one up from the office and asking someone from the staff, like a Peer Career Advisor, for assistance. Remember, however, that the Campus Employment Application can be used to satisfy the resume requirements of most ESH jobs.
3. You don’t know how to find out if you got the job.
Check your email box frequently. Also, you may be called by an employer.
If you have any questions, or if you are still having problems, you may email the office at career@wabash.edu, instant message the office at WabashCareers (on AIM), or simply stop by from 8AM-4:30PM (except lunch) Monday through Friday, and 7PM-10PM Monday through Thursday. By stopping by, we will be able to walk you through a particular procedure.
