Wabash College's first Community Fair is more than just an opportunity for students to find out what Crawfordsville has to offer. It's a chance for citizens to better acclimate themselves with the community, as well as find out what Wabash's students can possibly do for them.
The Community Fair is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday on the campus mall. Hawg Wild is serving lunch for $3 a person. Altogether 62 businesses and organizations will be on hand to demonstrate what they have to offer.
"We had no idea what to expect, but we're very pleased with the turnout," said Scott Crawford, director of the Schroeder Career Center at Wabash. "We haven't done this before, so for the first time you really don't know what's going to be the response. "Attendees can expect a pretty broad mix of participants.
"We have places looking for volunteers, places looking for students for part-time employment, services as far as restaurants, a tattoo place, a bowling alley, places that are trying to get the word out to students that they're available for them," Crawford said.
In addition, attendees get a 10 percent discount at the Wabash Bookstore.
Considering the strong response the college has received, Crawford is optimistic the Career Fair can be an annual event, as well as another tie-in between Wabash and the surrounding community.
"We actually have some people who are contacting us now, and we really don't have anymore room at this point," he said. "What we're hoping to do is, if this is a success, encourage them to sign up next year.
