While the Wabash cross country team ran faster times than they posted at last year’s Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships, they still were not satisfied with the results. The Little Giants were sixth out of nine teams at the 2006 event Saturday morning.
"Finishing sixth was disappointing," said assistant coach Roger Busch. "We looked good early in terms of our individual positions in the field, but faded in the middle. We have to work on race strategies and mid-race fitness."
Dennis Frazee was the top individual finisher for the Little Giants. The senior took eighth place with a time of 27:12. Sam Compton-Craig was 20th (27:36), while Dustin Beck took 32nd (28:10).
Geoff Lambert (36th – 28:21) and Micah Milliman (40th – 28:25) rounded out the team scoring.
DePauw won the team competition with 38 points. Ohio Wesleyan was second (72), followed by Albion (92), Oberlin (94), and Denison (100). Wabash scored 134 points.
"It’s a job now as a team to gear up for the Indiana Intercollegiates this Friday," Busch said. "That race will be a good test against some of the same teams. Ben Bly and Paul Wilson will be back after suffering some early season injuries. That will give us even better team depth.
"It will be good to see if we can close the gap with some of the same teams we ran against today."
The Indiana Intercollegiates will be run at the Wabash Valley Sports Center in Terre Haute Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
