Award-winning editorial cartoonist Daryl Cagle will visit the campus of Wabash College and present a public lecture: "Being an Editorial Cartoonist: Everyone Wants to Kill Me and You May Too!" The lecture will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall on Thursday, September 28. The community is cordially invited to attend.
Cagle will also visit Professor David Hadley’s political science course that focuses on political satire, and work with Wabash’s student cartoonists whose work appears in The Bachelor.
Daryl Cagle is the daily editorial cartoonist for the MSNBC.com and is the world's most widely syndicated and reprinted newspaper cartoonist with close to 900 subscribing newspapers. Approximately three million regular, unique users visit Cagle's Professional Cartoonists Index site each month, making it the most popular cartoon site, of any kind, on the Internet. It is also the most widely used education site in social studies classrooms around the world.
For the past 30 years, Cagle has been one of America’s most prolific cartoonists. Raised in California, Cagle went to college at UC Santa Barbara, then moved to New York City where he worked for ten years with Jim Henson’s Muppets, illustrating scores of books, magazines, calendars and all manner of products.
Cagle drew a daily editorial cartoon panel titled, "TRUE!" for Tribune Media Services in the 1990's and went on to draw local editorial cartoons for Hawaii's Midweek newspaper. He moved to drawing daily cartoons for Gannett’s Honolulu Advertiser newspaper and later became the cartoonist for Slate.com in 2000. In 2005 Cagle moved from Slate.com to become the cartoonist for the Internet's top news site, MSNBC.com.
Five years ago, Cagle started a new syndicate, Cagle Cartoons, Inc., which has grown to be the largest distributor of editorial cartoons in America, syndicating Cagle’s cartoons to more subscribing newspapers than any other American editorial cartoonist or group of cartoonists.
Cagle Cartoons, Inc. distributes the cartoons of about 50 editorial cartoonists and columnists to over 800 newspapers. Cagle also edits an annual book titled, The Best Political Cartoons of the Year. Other Cagle books include The BIG Book of Bush Cartoons and TRUE, the Complete Encyclopedia of Human Knowledge. He has illustrated dozens of books. Cagle is a past president of the National Cartoonists Society.
