Greisl Named to AFCA Good Works Team

Senior linebacker and co-captain Chris Greisl has been named to the 2006 American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team. Greisl is the first member of the Wabash football team named to the squad.

Established by the College Football Association in 1992, the team honors players for their dedication and commitment to community service. The AFCA began selecting the team in 1997.

Greisl is serving as the community service captain for the second season, in addition to being voted a co-captain by the team for the 2006 season.

"All you need to know about the kind of example Chris Greisl sets is the fact his teammates voted him to be captain even though he hasn't been a regular starter and knowing he would be in a battle for a starting job this year," head coach Chris Creighton said. "There isn't any more he could put into the program. Chris is completely committed to every project he takes on."

Greisl organized the Little Giant team that participated in the Indiana Special Olympics FedEx Plane Pull, and has participated in the event every year. He has organized local school visits, has volunteered at the Crawfordsville Family Crisis Shelter, has helped with the Indiana Highway Cleanup program, and has been involved in Hurricane Katrina Relief fundraising.

Greisl was also a part of the team that traveled to Panama last May. The group worked in a local village and conducted youth football clinics as a major portion of the trip. Last February he also joined teammates in a trip to the Riley Hospital for Children to visit with patients and their families for an afternoon.

Eleven players from Division I-AA, II, and III and the NAIA around the country are named to the Good Works team, in addition to eleven players from Division I.
