Red Pack Takes 11th at Indiana Intercollegiates

The Wabash cross country team raced the rest of the state's college teams Friday afternoon at the annual Indiana Intercollegiate Championships. The Little Giants finished 11th out of 25 teams.

"We hoped for some improvement from our performance as a team at the GLCA's last weekend," said assistant coach Roger Busch. "We worked very hard all week long going into the race, and ran on tired legs. Even so, I was very pleased with our results."

Those results included a 36th place finish by senior Dennis Frazee, who crossed the line with a time of 27:03. Last year Frazee finished 37th among just the small colleges competing in the event, as opposed to this year's finish against the entire field.

The Little Giants' gap time from first to fifth among the team runners was only 53 seconds. Sophomore Sam Compton-Craig finished 49th overall, crossing the finish line in 27:27. Dustin Beck was 52nd (27:29), while Geoff Lambert (75th, 27:56) and Micah Milliman (76th, 27:56) rounded out the scoring.

"Overall it was a decent performance," Busch said. "We still have to run tougher in the middle of the race. When you get tired, you have to mentally be able to push past that level of exhaustion. We're not there yet, but we have time to achieve that before the end of the season."

Wabash is off this week, but will run at the Notre Dame Invitational next Friday afternoon.
