Vice Ties For First at Hiram Golf Invitational

Sophomore Jordan Vice stormed from ninth place at the start of the final round of the Hiram Golf Invitational to finish in a tie for first place. Wabash finished seventh overall as a team.

Vice shot a 71 Sunday, the best individual round of any player in the two-day tournament. He finished with a total of 148, sharing first place honors with Allegheny's Chad Kosanovic. Because of crowded golf course, teams had agreed in the event of tie to go through the scorecard starting with the number one handicapped hole, comparing scores to determine a medalist. Kosanovic claimed the honors based on the tiebreaker.

"We knew going into the match that's how any tie for medalist honors would be settled," head golf coach Mac Petty said. "But it's a shame, because the way Jordan was playing I think he could have won on the course."

The Bedford, Indiana native improved six shots over his 77 in Saturday's first round.

The event was the first of two fall matches that will be included with a spring event and the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship event to determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Golf Championships to be played in May in Anderson. The Little Giants were sixth out of the eight NCAC teams that participated in the event. Wabash shot 666 (331-335) for the tournament.

Freshman Sam Russell shot a two-day total of 168 (84-84). Bryan Arnold finished with a 175 (84-91).

Wabash will play in the Franklin Fall Golf Invitational September 24-25.
