David Sanders, Democratic candidate for the U. S. House of Representatives for Indiana District 4 gave a talk in Baxter Hall Monday evening. His audience included an array of Montgomery County residents, Wabash faculty, as well as Wabash Students.
Sanders, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Purdue University answered questions from his audience and talked in depth about his campaign strategy.
"I am not practicing politics per say," Sanders said. "Rather, I am trying to introduce myself."
Sanders believes local topics such as veteran issues are more relative to his voters, which is what he focused on for part of his talk.
"I can talk about larger issues just like everyone else," Sanders told his audience. "However, elections are won and lost on local issues."
Sanders urged his audience to become involved in the political process, in particular his campaign telling them to write letters to the editor and phoning neighbors to help in his efforts to win the upcoming election. As far as the election, Sanders has elaborate plans after his predicted victory over Republican Candidate, Steve Buyer.
"After I win the election I am going to travel the district and visit every town," Sanders said. "I am going to hold meetings in every town and ask the citizens what they want of their congressman."
Sanders resides in Lafayette with his three sons Honi, Akiva, Yannon. He is also a graduate of Yale University and the University of California at Berkley. Sanders Conducted research at UCSF and the Whitehead Institute before joining the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University.
