A three-over 73 by freshman Kyle Nagdeman led to one of six individual match play victories Thursday afternoon at the Crawfordsville Country Club in a dominating 9-1/2 to 3-1/2 win by Wabash over Rose-Hulman in the fall portion of the Little Giant-Engineer Match Play Classic. The Little Giants reclaimed the trophy taken by Rose-Hulman last spring in Terre Haute.
Nagdeman defeated Josh Fakes in heads-up play while helping the Little Giants to a 467-485 victory in stroke play. The Wabash rookie was three-over par, his best individual effort of the fall season, earning medalist honors. Senior JP Manalo was second with a 74, defeating Coy McNew by four strokes in match play. Sophomore Jordan Vice shot a 78, narrowly edging Rose's Kyle Wilson by a stroke. Sam Russell scored a point with a 79-85 victory over Dan Stanage. Bryan Arnold won 80-83 over Bret Holbrook. John Holmes added a sixth singles point in the match play scoring with an 83-90 win against Jeff Pekarek. (View photos from the match.)
Manalo and Arnold combined to defeat McNew and Holbrook 3&2 in team match play. Nagdeman joined with Kevin Andrews for a 4&2 win over Fakes and Anthony Sloan. Wabash also scored a match play point by winning the team stroke play. Vice and Russell split their team match with Wilson and Stanage for a 1/2-point for each squad.
The two teams will meet again in the spring for another match-play competition on March 22 at Hulman Links in Terre Haute.
Wabash will continue fall play this weekend at the Wittenberg Invitational.
