Wabash College History Department, in conjunction with the Visiting Lecture Series, invites you to hear R. Brian Ferguson give a talk at 8 p.m. Monday, October 16, in Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall. Ferguson is an expert on the biology, anthropology and origins of warfare in human history. The title of Ferguson’s talk is "When and Why Did War Begin?"
In addition to his Monday night lecture, Ferguson will give a 12:15 p.m. talk Tuesday, October 17 on "An Anthropological Theory of Warfare." The talk will take place in Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall. Ferguson is professor of sociology and anthropology at Rutgers University. He received his Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University in 1988. He is the founder/director of Working Group on Political Violence, War, and Peace at the Center for Global Change and Governance at Rutgers University. Ferguson has written several articles and publications including The State, Identity, and Violence: Political Disintegration in the Post-Cold War World. In addition, he has organized conferences or sessions on homelessness and poverty in New York City, on environmental security, and on contemporary street gangs.
Ferguson is a member of the Board of Governors of the New York Academy of Sciences, and the recipient of the Henry J. Browne Award for Excellence in Teaching from University College, and the Scholar-Teacher Award from Rutgers University.
His talk is free and open to the public.
