Oberlin Offensive Runs End in Wabash Defeat

A game of streaks dominated Saturday's basketball game between Oberlin and Wabash. In the end, Oberlin came away with the final run to secure a 78-69 victory over the Little Giants in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The first run started from the bus to the locker room as the Little Giant players discovered the starting time of the game had been changed from 2 pm to a 1 pm. After agreeing to start at 1:30 pm, the Little Giants still did not come out ready to play, struggling offensively in the early going.

Wabash trailed 25-10 in the first half after a 12-0 run by the Yeomen midway through the period before the Little Giants responded with a 15-2 run to cut the lead to two points. But after trading baskets for another two-minute stretch, Oberlin finished the half with a 6-0 scoring run to take a 36-28 halftime lead.

Wabash cut into the Yeomen lead in the second half, tying the game at 41-41 with 14:35 remaining before Oberlin made another run, this time a 7-0 streak. Wabash would see the lead drop to four points with 6:33 remaining in the contest, but would get no closer.

Wabash was led by the 20-point efforts of Ryan Short (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) and Brady Claxton (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville). Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) added 13 points, 19 rebounds and five blocked shots. James Bartlett (Louisville, KY/DuPont Manual) finished with 10 points.
