Wabash College invites you to hear fantasy author, novelist, and screenwriter Steven Boyett give a talk at 8 p.m. Monday, October 23, in Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall. Boyett will include readings from some of his work, about fantasy literature and its uses. The title of Boyett’s talk is "Forced Perspective: Fantasy and Subversion."
Boyett was born in Atlanta, Georgia, grew up all over Florida, and attended the University of Tampa on a writing scholarship before quitting to write his first novel, Ariel, when he was 19. He is currently writing a sequel, Eloi.
Boyett’s second novel, the incomplete The Architect of Sleep, was begun in 1983 while working for the History and English Departments at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Boyett moved in 1984 from Florida to Los Angeles, CA, where he continued to write fiction and screenplays as well as teach college writing courses, seminars, and workshops. He has published stories in literary, science fiction, fantasy, and horror anthologies and magazines, as well as publishing articles and comic books. In the early 90s his imprint Sneaker Press published chapbooks by the poets Carrie Etter and the late Nancy Lambert.
Boyett took some time off in 2000 from writing. He took up yoga, learned to play the didgeridoo, started composing electronic music, and produced two CDs. Boyett's increasing passion for electronic dance music led to learning how to DJ, and as dj steveboy he has played house, progressive house, funky tech house, and retro remixes at clubs, conventions, parties, and after parties. He has two podcasts, Groovelectric (dance mixes) and Podrunner (workout music mixes). Podrunner is currently one of the most popular music podcasts in the world.
His talk is free and open to the public.
