Sophomore Sam Compton-Craig showed steady improvement over the past few weeks leading into Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship meet. That improvement culminated in an eighth-place finish at the championships to earn a spot on the All-NCAC Second Team, helping Wabash to a fourth place finish in the team competition.
Compton-Craig just missed earning a place on the All-NCAC First Team. He was nipped at the finish line by Allegheny's Ben Mourer in the race for seventh place. The top-seven finishers earned First Team honors, with Second Team honors going to eighth- to 14th-place. The next seven finishers earned All-NCAC Honorable Mention honors. Compton-Craig, Mourer, and Kenyon's Jim Boston all finished in 27:46.
Freshman Micah Millman crossed the finish line in 28:29 to finish 22nd, just missing a place on the Honorable Mention team. Dennis Frazee was 24th (28:37), followed by Geoff Lambert (28:30, 25th place), Dustin Beck (29:08, 33rd place), Hugh Jackson (29:29, 45th place), and Cole Jeffries (30:13, 53rd place).
Wabash scored 112 points in the team competition. Allegheny won its third consecutive NCAC title with a 25-point effort. Ohio Wesleyan was second (79 points), with Denison overtaking Wabash for third place (81 points).
The Little Giants will take a week off before competing at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Hanover College Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
