Students Learn About Healing in the Greek World

Professor Leslie Day’s Classics 211 class as well as other guests from the Classics department recently listened to Dr. Bronwen Wickkiser discuss the healing cult of Asklepios in the Ancient Greek world.

To say that many of the students were captivated during the lecture would be an understatement.  "Her expertese and bright personality made the talk a pleasure to listen to," said Kyle Trusgnich ’08

However, the real enlightenment was found in the resulting questions and discussion.  Students asked questions ranging from the uses of medicinal music to evidence of the healing profession being a "secret knowledge" society in the Hellenistic world.

The 75 minute class time was not enough to  span the deep conversation, and much discussion continued on.  All the students seemed delighted with the Classics Department’s choice for a guest speaker this fall.
