186 of the "Talented Tenth" Participate in Top Ten Visit Day

On Wednesday, the Admissions Office hosted the largest visit program of fall bringing 186 prospective students, all ranking in the top ten percent of their classes, to campus for the Top Ten Visit Day.  When you add parents to the total, Wabash hosted 368 guests on campus.  From Jeremy Heidenreich '00 in Fort Wayne who greeted students as they boarded a bus to campus at 6:00 AM to the coaches who met with students well past 5:00 PM, the entire Wabash community pitched in to make the Top Ten Visit Day a success.

After welcoming remarks from Dean of Admissions Steve Klein and President Pat White, Scott Smalstig '88 delivered an inspired keynote address reminding students that the world needs young men who've studied "the liberating arts" and are ready to assume leadership roles in this world.  That's the business we're in at Wabash.  Photos from registration and welcome session.

Several alumni returned to campus to take part in alumni panels.  Gary Campbell '99, Greg Castanias '87, Adam Cole '98, Daryl Johnson '82, Scott Medsker '03, Kelly Pfledderer '96, Eric Shreve '02 served as panelists.  Alumni, faculty, staff, and current students joined our guests for lunch making this one of the largest gatherings held in Knowling Fieldhouse.  Photos from alumni panels and lunch.

The biggest incentive for students to attend is the Top Ten Scholarship, but the highlight of the day had to be the academic breakout sessions hosted in the afternoon.  Prospective students headed off to class to work with Wabash faculty and students on a variety of subjects.  Aspriring biologists, chemists, and pre-med students went to work in the laboratories of Hays and Goodrich Halls.  Students interested in areas such as Business, Economics, Law, Music, and Theater took part in discussions and activities in clasrooms across campus.  Students learned a lot and enjoyed themselves, but more importantly, left campus knowing that opportunities to work with faculty aren't limited to special visit days.  Those opportunities happen every day at Wabash.  Photos from the academic sessions.

On behalf of the Admissions Office, I'd like to thank everyone who lent us hand.  We couldn't do it without you.
