The early season dominance of the Little Giant swimming and diving team continued over the weekend with the team's top finish at the 2006 Wabash Invitational.
Freshman Adam Petro scored the second-highest individual total among all of the male competitors, contributing 68 points to Wabash's total of 516.50. The University of Indianapolis was second (509), followed by DePauw (465.5), Wheaton (412), Carthage (337), Kalamazoo (307), Rose-Hulman (201), and Transylvania (152). Petro scored a victory in the 200 butterfly, winning the race with a time of 1:57.76. He added a second place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:01.55), third in the 100 butterfly (53.17), and fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.33). Petro was also part of the third place 200-yard medley relay team of Kyle O'Keefe, Kyle Weaver, and Blaine Cooper-Surma, finishing in 1:39.55.
Fellow freshman Elijah Sanders added 52 points. He scored 17 points in the 1650 free, touching in second place with a time of 17:01.87 and added another 15 points with a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:51.43). He was also fifth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:23.70).
Jordon Blackwell scored fourth place finishes in the 100 (48.64) and 200 free (1:46.88), and was sixth in the 500 free (5:01.78). He and teammates Craig Vetor, Sanders, and Matt Routh were fourth in the 800 free relay (7:21.03).
Weaver added a fourth place finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.19. Diver Rob Fenoglio scored 17 points with a second place finish on the one-meter board with final judges' score of 212.10.
The Little Giants will split the team for their next meet. Part of the squad will swim at the DePauw Invitational, while the rest will head to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami University Invitational, while the divers will host the Wabash Diving Invitational.
