Tankers Complete Florida Trip With Relay Competition

Wabash showed why it's currently ranked fourth in the nation in the latest CollegeSwimming.com poll after nearly knocking off Division I Davidson in a relay meet to wrap up a ten-day training trip to Florida. The Little Giants received 156 points in the latest web site rankings, trailing Denison (175.30), Emory (160.30), and Kenyon (157.30) at the top of the poll.

The Little Giants opened the relay meet Wednesday afternoon with a victory by the quartet of Matt Routh, Kyle Weaver, Adam Petro, and Robert Fozkos in the 200 butterfly relay. The foursome won the event with a time of 1:37.52. The team of Phil Towne, Weaver, Blaine Cooper-Surma, and Fozkos took the top spot in the 200 free relay, winning the race in 1:28.90.

Wabash posted another victory, this time in the 400 free relay by the team of Towne, Nick Rockefeller, Cooper-Surma, and Jordon Blackwell.

Davidson won the meet with 154 points, followed by the 146-point effort of Wabash. SUNY - New Paltz scored 44 points.

Wabash returns to action January 13 against the University of Indianapolis at 1 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
