Tennis Team Sweeps Earlham in NCAC Net Action

Wabash scored a perfect 9-0 victory against Earlham College Saturday after defeating Franklin College 8-1 Thursday to move to 3-1 for the season.

Jay Horrey and Adam Van Zee combined for an 8-5 victory at number doubles against the Quakers on Saturday morning to get the match off to a good start. Adrian Starnes and Sean Clerget were 8-0 winners in the second flight of doubles play, while Dan Petrie and Josh Paul picked up an 8-3 win at third doubles.

Horrey sailed to a 6-0, 6-2 win at number one singles against Scott Miller. Van Zee recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win at number two singles. Paul was forced to three sets before earning a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Aaron Weeden in the third flight of singles play. Starnes won 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets at fourth singles. Nathan Mullendore and Clerget were both easy victors in the final two singles matches, each recording 6-0, 6-0 wins.

The Little Giants went 2-0 for the week with the win over Earlham after already picking up their Thursday home win against Franklin. Horry and Van Zee remained undefeated in doubles play with an 8-4 victory in the first flight. Starnes and Clerget were 8-6 winners, as were Paul and Petrie to sweep the doubles effort.

Horrey (6-2, 6-0), Paul (7-6, 6-2), Starnes (6-3, 3-6, 10-6), Mullendore (6-3, 6-3) and Clerget (6-2, 7-6) were all winners in singles actions against the Grizzlies.

Wabash returns to the tennis courts this Saturday with home matches against the College of Wooster and the University Chicago. Play begins in the Collett Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
