Ask Little Giant quarterback Jake Knott ’03 how he spent his summer, and he'll say he worked on his passing, played golf, and spent a day at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs. It's who he spent his time with that made the summer a little more unusual.
Knott met Purdue University quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Drew Brees at the start of the summer, and ended up spending much of it with him. The two worked out almost daily in the Boilermakers' weight room and practice facility to prepare for their individual seasons. But it went beyond football.
"I really enjoyed spending time with Jake," Brees said. "We can talk about football, but we also enjoy talking about school, baseball, or just about anything. We realized that we have so many things in common."
The two went to Wrigley Field together when Brees was invited to sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" this summer. And joining Knott and Brees in the songfest was NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach!
