Wabash College invites you to hear Ryan West give a talk at 12:10 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, in Hays Hall, room 319. West is in charge of the BioTown USA project in Reynolds, Ind., and will be speaking about the implementation of biorenewable resources in Indiana. The title of West’s talk is "Turning Challenges into Opportunities," and will cover Indiana’s growing ethanol production.
West serves the Indiana Governor and Lieutenant Governor as the program manager for bioenergy development. West manages the team that is leading the way in ethanol, biodiesel, biomass, and other bioenergy projects.
West grew up in northwest Henry County (Ind.) and developed his love for agriculture on his grandfather’s cattle farm. Active in the Shenandoah High School FFA, West was elected to serve the Indiana FFA as a state officer, promoting agricultural leadership throughout the state.
Upon the completion of the one year of service, West enrolled at Purdue University to study plant science. After a few years, West changed his major to pursue his goal of agricultural policy, graduating from Purdue with a degree in political science and a minor in Russian.
After college, West accepted a position with the Indiana House of Representatives, serving four state representatives and staffing the Agriculture and Environmental Affairs committees. With the development of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, West was named director of legislative affairs and policy.
His talk, which is sponsored by the Experience Indiana Grant funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc., is free and open to the public.
