Tennis Team Defeats 14th-Ranked Petrels

The Little Giant tennis team got spring break started on a good note with a 5-4 victory over Oglethorpe University. The Stormy Petrels entered the match ranked 14th in the latest ITA South Region poll.

Jay Horrey and Adam Van Zee started with an 8-5 victory at number one doubles. The number two doubles team of Adrian Starnes and Sean Clerget scored an 8-4 win over John Esterline and Gabe Henderson.

Van Zee picked up a three-set win at number two singles. He rallied from a 7-6 loss in set number one to come back and win 7-5, 6-3. Josh Paul was a 6-0, 6-2 winner in the third singles flight, while Clerget recorded a straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 win at six singles.

The Little Giants also scored an 8-1 victory over Lynchburg College in their first day at Hilton Head, South Carolina after defeating the Petrels on their home court in Atlanta, Georgia. Wabash swept doubles play with an 8-1 win by Horrey and Van Zee at first doubles, an 8-0 win by Starnes and Clerget in the second flight, and win by default in third doubles.

Horrey, Van Zee, and Starnes were all winners on the court in singles play for Wabash, while the Little Giants scored two default wins at fifth and sixth singles.

Wabash continues play in Hilton Head through Friday.
