Senior Tony Caldwell will compete in the finals of 100 backstroke at the 2007 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championship Meet after finishing in the top 16 in Friday morning's preliminary round. Caldwell finished with a time of 52.26 to take 15th in prelims, earning a spot in the finals for Wabash for the first time since David Kent '00 and Joe McDowell '01 made the finals at the 2000 meet.
Caldwell had already posted a fast time in the 50-yard freestyle Thursday morning. He finished with a lifetime best time of 21.85, the first time he's broken the 22-second mark.
Freshman Adam Petro also turned a quick time in the 100 butterfly. He missed a spot in the finals taking 24th place, but still finished with a personal-best mark of 51.17, nearly 7/10ths of a second faster than his seed time. Petro also finished with a time of 54.57 in the 100 backstroke, finishing 29th overall
The three-day meet will continue through Saturday evening at the Wellness Center on the campus of the University of Houston.
