The Little Giant tennis team cruised to two victories Saturday against Wartburg and Manchester at the Collett Tennis Center. Wabash defeated Wartburg 7-2 in the opening match before handing Manchester a 9-0 loss in the final contest.
Jay Horrey scored a straight sets victory at number one singles against Wartburg with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win. Adrian Starnes easily defeated Pat Mullen at fourth singles with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Nathan Mullendore took a 6-4, 6-2 victory at fifth singles, while Sean Clerget posted a 6-3, 6-2 win in the sixth flight of singles play.
Horrey and Adam Van Zee earned an 8-6 win at number one doubles. Clerget and Starnes battled to a 9-8 (3) victory at number two doubles. Josh Paul and Dan Petrie completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win in the third flight.
Wabash started the sweep of the Spartans with three doubles victories by Horrey and Van Zee (8-3), Clerget and Starnes (8-2), and Mullendore and Petrie (8-3). Van Zee scored a 6-2, 6-0 win at number one singles, while Starnes picked up a win with the same score in the second singles flight. Mullendore was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at third singles. Clerget earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fourth singles.
Ian Sequeira picked up his first varsity win with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at number five singles. Petrie scored a 6-0, 6-3 win at sixth singles to complete the shutout.
Wabash improves to 9-6 with the two wins and will take the week off before playing host to seven other teams in the annual Kerry Seward Memorial Tournament next Saturday and Sunday.
