Freshman Emmanuel Aouad picked up four individual victories Saturday to lead the Little Giant track and field team to a second place finish at the William Welch Invitational at Rose-Hulman.
Auoad picked up wins in both hurdle events in the running portion of the meet. He score his first victory in the 110-meter high hurdles, winning the race with a time of 15.02. He followed with a win in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 55.78.
The Wabash rookie also scored two victories in field events. He won the long jump with a mark of 6.67 meters (21 feet, 10-3/4 inches), then took the triple jump title with a winning distance of 13.18 meters (43 feet, 3 inches).
Hugh Jackson and Josh Gangloff also took top honors in their individual events. Jackson won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:12.30, narrowly edging Denison's Adam Tewahade at the finish line by less than 7/10ths of a second. Teammate Geoff Lambert was fourth in the race (4:22.27). Jackson added a second place finish in the 800-meter run (2:00.58).
Gangloff, competing as a college track and field athlete for just the second time, took the top spot in the shot put. The sophomore won the event with a mark of 13.27 meters (43 feet, 6-1/2 inches) just five inches past teammate Ben Tritle in second (13.14 meters; 43 feet, 1-1/2 inches). Justin Sparks took third in the shot (12.86 meters; 42 feet, 2-1/4 inches) and a second in the hammer (126 feet, 6 inches).
Keegan McLaughlin posted a personal best in the javelin for the second week in row, finishing second overall with a distance of 44.07 meters (144 feet, 7 inches). Nelson Barre was second in the high jump after clearing a height of 5 feet, 4-1/4 inches. He also tied for second in the pole vault after clearing 13 feet, 5-1/4 inches.
Wabash scored a total of 96-1/2 points, trailing Rose-Hulman's winning total of 143-1/2 points. Denison (95 points) took third in the team competition.
