Russell Earns Medalist Honors at Hanover Invite

Freshman Sam Russell shot an even par 72 on the final day of competition at the 2007 Hanover Golf Invitational to finish as the medalist for the event. He shot 74 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 146 (+2).

The Springfield, Ohio native is the first medalist for Wabash at a tournament since James Lisher ’01 fired a 77 at the 1999 Marian College Invitational to earn the top individual spot. Sophomore Jordan Vice tied for low-score honors at last year's Hanover Invitational, but lost on the second playoff hole to Brescia's Ty Whitler.

Vice finished seventh at this year's tournament with a two-day total of 151 (76-75). Bryan Arnold tied for 14th after shooting a 156 (76-80).

Senior JP Manalo rebounded from a tough Sunday outing to trim nine strokes off his score to finish with a 163 (86-77) to tie for 22nd. Brandon Neighbors finished with a 166 (84-82).

The Little Giants finished second for the second consecutive year with a total of 614 strokes, 10 behind Brescia after Wabash started  the final round 12 strokes back. Hanover was third (638), followed by Rose-Hulman (647), Vincennes (649), Anderson (658), and Mount St. Joseph (665).

Wabash will compete in the Big Four Classic against Hanover, Butler, and DePauw on April 3.
