"The Arm(ing) of the Vanguard, Signify(ing), and Performing the Revolution: The Black Panther Party and Pedagogical Strategies for Interpreting a Revolutionary Life" by Assistant Professor of English and Malcolm X Institute Director Tim Lake was a chapter published in Jama Lazerow and Yohuru Williams’ In Search of the Black Panther Party: New Perspective on a Revolutionary Movement (Duke University Press 2006).
In addition, Lake spent the summer completing an eight-week Summer Cooperative African Language Institute course in Akan/Twi at Indiana University in Bloomington. Lake also preached a sermon, "Be of Good Cheer or Marvelous Faith," at Union Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, IN, in June, and presented "Speaking of Africa and Singing of Home: The Trope of ‘Africa’ in African American Historiography," at the International Conference on Theorizing African Diaspora: History and Memory held at DePaul University in Chicago, IL last May. He also presented "Local Histories: A Research Agenda for Black Culture Centers," at the Association of Black Culture Centers, North Carolina State University, Charlotte, NC in November.
