Weather, Illinois Wesleyan Prove Too Much for Wabash

Wabash battled Mother Nature and the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans on the baseball diamond Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately both Mother Nature and the Titans came out on top in a 13-2 contest that was shortened due to the weather.

The Little Giants, playing in a steady drizzle for much of the game, fell behind 4-0 before senior Scott Hamilton singled to left to open the sixth inning. He eventually scored on a wild pitch to end a 20-inning scoring drought. IWU answered with a nine-run effort in the bottom of the inning to take a 13-1 lead.

Hamilton grounded to second with the bases load in the top of the seventh inning to score Mike Nowak for the second run of the game. The Little Giants were unable to add any more runs, ending the inning with a double-play popup in short center field.

The game was scheduled to go nine innings, but due to the weather conditions the game was called in seventh.

Hamilton, Kyle Rush, and David Culp each finished with two hits in three trips to the plate --- the only six hits of the game for Wabash.

Mike Korfhagen was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs with one earned run on six hits. He struck out five and walked three batters. Tony Goodpaster and Ben Humphreys combined to work the sixth inning on the mound for the Little Giants.

Wabash (5-14-1) travels to Springfield, Ohio this weekend for a four-game North Coast Athletic Conference Western Division series against Wittenberg University.
